God is Bigger than America

The News Media perpetuates a political idea that the two major political parties in the United States are formed by a real and important division.  This is not true -  the division between the Democratic Party and the Republican Party is an artificial illusion. There are good Christian people on both sides who are driven apart from one another artificially by the parties and the News Media.

For example, the Republican Party claims to stand for personal responsibility and the Democratic Party claims to stand for social justice.  What is not mentioned is that you can’t have one without the other - social justice and personal responsibility are inseparably intertwined.

Democrats are against the death penalty and Republicans are against abortion.  But don’t both ideas come from a respect of the likeness and image of God?  A culture of life that is whole, like the one Pope John Paul II so clearly spoke of, can see past these artificial divisions.

So next time you hear a debate between the two parties, remember that we are all children of God - children of the light -and that is more important than anything else.
